Background

1.1 What is SEICM? The Salt of the Earth International Counseling Ministry is a ministry which focuses on a ministry of counseling to transform families to help them live as God’s will. It aims to helping the generation becoming a fruitful and uncorrupted generation both for themselves and their country.

1.2) Date founded?

SEICM was founded 25 years ago by Pastor Demewez Abebe and his wife Yeshiwork Shimeles. This couple was married for 30 years. Before their marriage they were engaged for 5 years. During these years, they were prepared themselves for a ministry by learning, reading and observing other families. They started this ministry after 5 years of their marriage.

The Faith Statement of SEICM We believe All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and there is but one God, revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All men and women are by nature sinners, devoid of holiness, exposed to eternal ruin, and without excuse. Jesus the Christ, the God-Man, is our only mediator and Savior through the atonement He has made for sin by His death and resurrection.

Mission statement of SEICM The mission statement of SEICM is committed to providing professional counseling services within a Biblical framework to the individual, the family, the church Body and the community. We will extend God’s love in the emotional and spiritual healing of individuals in order to equip them to become more Christ-like in their personal, professional, and public lives.

The Purpose of SEICM. The purpose of this ministry is to be an equipping center and an agent of change for strengthening marriages and families throughout Ethiopia and aboard. Strengthening marriages and personal relationships for Christ are particularly important in Ethiopia. The ministry has been providing counseling services to diverse groups of society through responding to the questions of people by letter, email and telephone. The ministry gives face to face counseling for people who need counseling in Addis Ababa In addition to personal and couple counseling, the ministry provides various kinds of trainings for the churches in areas of marriage and family life. Preparing educational materials on marriage and family life such as books and magazine as well as broadcasting audio-visual lessons by radio and TV channels are other ways of providing the services to the church of God.

The goal of SEICM. In Ethiopian context there is big problem of discussing marriage issues and people lack the skill to lead happy marriage. When we look to the cause of the problems, the major factor is lack of knowledge and skill to lead marriage as a couple. As a result, divorce rate is increasing from time to time, conflicts are resulting undesired consequences and physical damage, children are suffering from family problems, unhappiness brought inefficiency at workplaces. To solve such problems and disasters in the country, well equipped and committed marriage counselors are needed. Considering these gaps SEICM is emerged and committed to undertake various counseling works in Ethiopia and Aboard.
